Bintan Lagoon Resort Hosts Inaugural JGTA From 20 to 22 December

As part of a new initiative to propel Asia’s rising stars of junior golf to succeed at the American University level, the Junior Golf Tour of Asia (JGTA) will launch its AJGA-sanctioned junior golf tour this December 20 – 22, 2017, with its first event at Bintan Lagoon Resort, the Indonesian island of Bintan, which is a 75-minute ferry ride from Singapore.

The JGTA is the sanctioning body in Asia for American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Performance Based Entry (PBE) Status, and represents the series of tournaments throughout the region, where players can build their AJGA PBE Status through their final ranking on the JGTA’s Junior Order of Merit.

For the first time in history, the next generation of prominent golfers in Asia can build AJGA PBE Status by competing in JGTA events, and can begin doing so at the JGTA Bintan Lagoon Junior Championship this December.

The three-day event will be a 54-hole/stroke play and will comprise of seminars from the JGTA imparting tips and advice to these young golfers vying for admission into the top University golf programs in the USA.

“The mission of the JGTA is to provide a regional platform of elite competition for Asia’s rising stars of junior golf that can actually help those players achieve high-level American College golf opportunities, where they can achieve a University education while taking their game to the next level while playing in the NCAA,” remarked Kyi Hla Han, Founder-Director of the JGTA and former Executive Chairman of the Asia Tour.

“By aligning with the AJGA – which has produced the vast majority of College and professional golfers – and giving juniors an opportunity to build their AJGA PBE Status without having to travel to the U.S., the JGTA strives to make a real difference here in Asia.”

The JGTA plans to work with the region’s most exciting golfing venues such as Bintan Lagoon Resort, to grow the game in Asia at the highest level of junior competition, while providing a conducive environment for participants aged 12 to 18 years old and spectators at its events.

“We are thrilled to be the official host venue for the launch of the JGTA (Junior Golf Tour of Asia) in December. With two international designer courses set against a breathtaking backdrop, the players will be assured of an outstanding time at Bintan Lagoon Resort. The numerous awards and accolades received over the years is a testament to our solid experience in hosting golf tournaments from around the world,” remarked Ken Khua, Director of Golf, Bintan Lagoon Resort.

“Showcasing the JGTA at such a fantastic resort during the holiday season was a major focus of the JGTA,” says Kyi Hla Han, “as Bintan Lagoon Resort has played host to events on the Asian Tour and offers a world-class resort experience and golfing venue to challenge the juniors who will be competing in the inaugural event. We thank Bintan Lagoon Resort for their enthusiastic support. We are confident that this tropical exotic island will provide the right environment for a stimulating experience for all players and their families.”
