Bintan, Riau Islands, 17 December 2025 – Amid ongoing efforts to promote sustainable tourism development, investment in human capital is regarded as a key foundation for long-term regional growth. This approach is reflected in the implementation of the Student Excellence Awards (SEA) 2025, an education appreciation program that has been run by Bintan Resorts for more than 26 years.
The initiative targets students from administrative areas surrounding the Bintan Resorts destination as part of efforts to strengthen access to education for local communities that grow alongside the tourism area on Bintan Island in the Riau Islands Province.
Through SEA 2025, Bintan Resorts awarded academic honors, non-academic achievement awards, and higher education scholarships to 642 students across multiple education levels. With this year’s recipients, the total number of beneficiaries since the program’s inception in 1999 has reached 14,201 students.
A total of 627 students from 26 elementary (SD/MI), junior high (SMP/MTs), and senior high or vocational schools (SMA/SMK) received Academic Awards, recognizing top-three academic rankings as a reflection of learning consistency and discipline in character building. Meanwhile, Excellence Awards were presented to 15 selected students, consisting of five students each from elementary, junior high, and senior high levels, who demonstrated outstanding achievements in various competitions.
This award category highlights accomplishments beyond the classroom and acknowledges students who have represented Bintan at the district, provincial, national, and international levels. In the same series of events, Cakrawala Scholarships were also awarded to high-achieving senior high and vocational school graduates to pursue higher education in fields including Law, Mandarin Language Education, and Fire Safety Engineering.
Hebron Habeahan, General Manager Finance and Administration of Bintan Resorts, said the annual Student Excellence Awards are part of the company’s long-term commitment to developing human capital in Bintan.
“As part of our commitment to social responsibility and sustainability, we view education as a strategic long-term investment in human capital development. Today’s recognition represents our appreciation for the dedication and perseverance shown by students who continue to learn with enthusiasm despite the challenges they face,” he said.
Representing the Bintan Regency Government, Wan Rudi Iskandar, Assistant for Government and Social Welfare at the Bintan Regency Secretariat, expressed appreciation for Bintan Resorts’ consistency in supporting education programs for more than two decades through its corporate social responsibility initiatives, including education development and the establishment of schools within the Bintan Resorts area.
According to him, education development requires strong collaboration between local governments, schools, parents, and the private sector, as education is a shared investment in the future. He added that data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) shows that Bintan Regency’s economic growth reached 8.89 percent in 2024, one of the highest rates in the Riau Islands. This growth was driven by contributions from businesses in the manufacturing and tourism sectors, including Bintan Resorts, as part of sustainable regional development.
The implementation of SEA 2025 was also supported by stakeholders within the Bintan Resorts area, who contributed as donors through curated educational assistance packages formulated by Bintan Resorts for outstanding students.
Through the Student Excellence Awards, Bintan Resorts reaffirms its sustainability approach, which extends beyond environmental considerations to include the strengthening of human capital quality. Education is positioned as a long-term investment in shaping an adaptive and competitive generation in Bintan, while ensuring a balance between economic growth and workforce readiness in an expanding tourism destination.
