Bintan, 1st October 2025 – This year, 652 participants are prepared to take on the challenge of the Indofood Bintan Triathlon 2025, an endurance sport that combines swimming, cycling, and running into a single competition series. Taking place from 3rd to 5th October this week at Lagoi Bay, nestled in the world-class tourism precinct of Bintan Resorts, this sport tourism event offers more than just a test of athletic performance, it also presents an opportunity to experience the beauty of a renowned destination that has long been a prime venue for major events in the Province of Riau Islands.
This year there is an increase of participation in this sponsored event by PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk (“Indofood”), a publicly listed company in Indonesia. The growth reflects both the enthusiasm and the confidence of the triathlon community, signified by the rising number of participants from Indonesia. “Of all registered participants, 51 percent are from Indonesia and the rest international participants. The largest representation comes from Singapore, followed by France, Japan, United Kingdom and Malaysia,” stated Raja Azmizal, Head of Commercial Bintan Resorts. He elaborated that the event has drawn representatives from 30 countries, positioning it not only as an endurance competition but also to showcase Bintan Triathlon as an iconic international event in Indonesia that brings together the spirit of sports and tourism in one prestigious occasion and location.
“We welcome the continued growth of national and international participation in the Bintan Triathlon event. For many years, Bintan Island has served as a leading destination for triathlon enthusiasts, and we are committed to providing the highest standard of triathlon race experience for all athletes,” remarked Elvin Ting, Founder of Trifactor Asia and partner of Bintan Resorts for Indofood Bintan Triathlon event. This event is also a precursor to the much anticipated return of Tour de Bintan series, planned for the 2nd quarter of 2026.
The Olympic category, featuring the longest distance of swim, cycle, and run, recorded the highest interest this year, indicating strong participation from the experienced triathletes. The Sprint (short distance) category also posted significant growth, reflecting an increasing number of newcomers to the sport. To broaden opportunities, this year Bintan Triathlon has introduced a new Duathlon category (combination of cycling and running) which, despite limited entries, shows promising potential for future editions. As in previous years, the Youth category for young enthusiast and the Splash and Dash category for kids continue to contribute to the vibrancy of the event this weekend.
Bintan Resorts as the host of this international event, has consistently demonstrated its safety, reliability, and suitability as an ideal venue for triathlon competitions, which has been held in the area for two decades. This was recently recognized through an award from the Provincial Government of the Riau Islands, naming the event Bintan Triathlon A Consistent Tourism Event during the province’s anniversary celebration on 24 September 2025. Featuring calm waters for swimming, smooth vehicle-free routes for cycling and running, the destination provides excellent conditions for athletes. “These are among the advantages that Riau Islands offer, along with other attractions in other part of Island of Bintan, Batam, Karimun, and Anambas. We look forward to welcoming participants of the Bintan Triathlon with festive celebrations, highlighted by traditional Malay Welcome Dance as part of our cultural heritage,” said Hasan, Head of Tourism Office of Riau Islands Province. He further noted that as of July 2025, the number of international tourists had reached 1.085.448, alongside 2.500.673 of domestic tourists arriving in Riau Islands Province, with targets continuing to be pursued through year-end. To support this, various promotional efforts are being undertaken, including through local and national media.
In line with this, Head of Bintan Regency, Roby Kurniawan stated that this iconic sport tourism event has become one of the drivers for attracting key visitors to Bintan Island, while also generating positive impacts on the local economy, particularly for communities involved in the tourism sector. “Government of Bintan Regency remains committed to providing support, including through budget allocations for the provision of goods and services required for the operational needs of this event,” he said.
Indofood, through its brands Indomie, Indomilk, and Club mineral water, is extending its support to Bintan Triathlon. “This international triathlon provides a platform for Indofood to encourage healthy and active living, contribute to the growth of Indonesian sports, and strengthen the global reach of our brands. We are proud to be part of a prestigious event that unites hundreds of participants from around the world and hope it will inspire more people to engage in sports and pursue a healthier lifestyle,” said Stefanus Indrayana, Head of Corporate Communications, Indofood.
Four Points by Sheraton Bintan, Lagoi Bay is supporting the Indofood Bintan Triathlon by providing facilities and services for participants and visitors. The event is expected to contribute positively to the development of sports and tourism in Bintan.
