Bintan, November 29, 2024 – Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 3, 2024, between Bintan Resorts and The International Golden Shipping in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which launched a new ferry route between Pasir Gudang Ferry Terminal in Johor Bahru and Bandar Bentan Telani Ferry Terminal in Bintan Resorts, the route officially begins its regular operations today. Commencing on Friday, November 29, this new route ushers in a convenient and comfortable travel option for visitors from both Malaysia and Indonesia looking to explore Bintan Island and Johor Bahru. The inaugural journey from Johor Bahru to Bintan Resorts is expected to enhance tourism to Bintan while further strengthening the bilateral tourism relationship between the two countries.

The warmth of the welcome was immediately felt as the inaugural MDM Express 03 ferry arrived at Bandar Bentan Telani Port, Bintan Resorts. The festive atmosphere was enhanced by a live performance of traditional Kolintang music, playing the soothing melodies of Riau Malay tunes to greet the first passengers from Johor Bahru, Malaysia. This display of hospitality and cultural richness represents the charm of Bintan, ready to captivate visitors.

In just 1 hour and 30 minutes, travelers from Malaysia, especially those from Johor Bahru, can now directly immerse themselves in the many attractions or catching up with family in Bintan Island. A variety of exciting travel packages, including a 3-day, 2-night stay or exclusive golf packages, will soon be offered. “This new route not only allows Malaysian tourists to experience the beauty of Bintan Island but also opens up an opportunity for the people of Bintan to explore Johor Bahru, renowned for its shopping malls, theme parks, and delightful cuisine. Cross-border travel has never been more accessible and comfortable,” said Prakash Nair, General Manager of Operations at Bintan Resorts.

Initially, the ferry will operate every weekend from December 2024 through January 2025, with departures from Pasir Gudang Terminal at 0930hrs (Malaysia Time) and from Bandar Bentan Telani Ferry Terminal at 1600hrs (Indonesia Time). Tickets can be easily purchased either at the ticket counters at both terminals. Round-trip tickets are priced at 260 Malaysian Ringgit for adults, while one-way tickets are available for 180 Malaysian Ringgit. For children, round-trip tickets are priced at 160 Malaysian Ringgit, and one-way tickets are 120 Malaysian Ringgit.

Prakash stated that by opening this ferry route, Malaysia and Indonesia are not just improving geographical connectivity but also fostering closer cultural, economic, and tourism exchanges. “Both the people of Johor Bahru and Bintan now have easier access to explore each other’s unique landscapes, making cross-border travel even more enriching and exciting,” said Prakash.
