All travel information you need to explore Bintan.

Weather

The weather in Bintan is generally sunny with dry and calm weathers from late March to early November. Expect strong winds and passing showers during the northeast monsoon period, which lasts from late November to early March.

Timezone

Bintan Island shares the same time zone as Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. This makes Bintan Island one hour behind Singapore time.

Currency

The currency of Indonesia is the Indonesian Rupiah (Rp). While most resorts accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards, cash is widely used in areas beyond resort grounds. There are 2 banks located in Pujasera with ATM facility. Money changers are available at the ferry terminal, Plaza Lagoi and some resorts.

Language

Bahasa Indonesia is the national language of Indonesia. Simple English is widely used throughout Bintan Resorts. Chinese-speaking staff is also available at most resorts.

Travel Visa

International passports must be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival into Indonesia. Please click below for more information.

Connectivity

Most resorts on Bintan Island provide complimentary WiFi for their guests. For mobile data and calls, stay connected on the go with a local SIM card available for purchase at Pujasera.

Power Plug

Bintan uses the 3-pin socket outlet of 220V. Do ensure that your devices are compatible with Type G plugs.

Dress Code

Come dressed in loose cotton and natural fibers as there is a fair amount of sunlight and humidity during the day. When visiting local towns and religious sites, please dress modestly.

Tipping

Tipping is not necessary in Bintan Resorts as a 10% service charge and 11% government tax may have been added to your bills at the hotels and restaurants. You need not tip beyond the service charge. However, if you have received excellent service, a small tip is always appreciated.

To Bring

Good sun protection, sunglasses, caps/hats and insect repellent are essential. Should you forget any of these, you can purchase them at Bintan Resorts.

Potable Water

Tap water from resorts located in Bintan Resorts meet World Health Organization standards for potable water. It is safe to drink water straight from the taps located at Bintan Resorts.

Concessions

The maximum concession allowed per individual for Bintan Island without duty is as follows:

  • Personal Goods of up to US$500 in value
  • Tobacco products – 200 cigarettes or 25 cigars or 100 grams of tobacco*
  • 1 litre of liquor*
  • Reasonable quantity of perfume

*Applicable only for adults above 17 years old.
