Starting October 8, 2024, Singapore Permanent Residents (PRs) will be able to enter Indonesia’s popular islands of Bintan and Batam without the need for a visa. This visa-free policy, introduced by the Indonesian government, aims to boost tourism and strengthen ties between Singapore and Indonesia, particularly for those visiting the Riau Islands. Here’s what you need to know about this new travel arrangement, including the specific procedures and eligibility criteria.

Visa-Free Entry Policy for Singapore PRs

As per the latest official circular, Singapore PRs who meet the eligibility criteria will benefit from visa-free entry to Indonesia, provided they use specific immigration checkpoints. The key entry points include eight designated seaports across the Riau Islands:

  1. Bandar Bintan Telani (Bintan Resorts)
  2. Nongsa Terminal Ferry Bahari
  3. Marina Teluk Senimba
  4. Batam Centre
  5. Citra Tri Tunas
  6. Sekupang
  7. Sri Bintan Pura
  8. Tanjung Balai Karimun

This new policy applies exclusively to those who enter and exit Indonesia through these immigration checkpoints.

Eligibility for Free Visa Entry to Bintan Resorts

The following categories of travelers are eligible for visa-free entry when traveling from Singapore to Bintan Resorts:

  1. Singapore Permanent Residents (PRs)
Individuals holding valid Permanent Resident (PR) status in Singapore, identifiable by a blue National Registration Identity Card (NRIC), are eligible for visa-free entry.

  2. Spouses and Children of Singapore PRs (LTVP Holders)
Spouses or children of Singapore PRs who hold a valid Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) issued by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore are eligible.

Important: To qualify for visa-free entry, these individuals must enter together with the Singapore PR and present valid documents proving the family relationship, such as a marriage certificate, birth certificate, or family registration.

Visitor Stay Permit and Limitations

Upon arrival at Bintan Resorts, eligible travelers will be issued a Visitor Stay Permit via an immigration entry stamp. This permit allows a stay of up to four (4) days. The permit is strictly non-extendable and cannot be converted to any other immigration status.

This policy is effective as of 31 January 2025.

Whether you’re looking to unwind on pristine beaches or play a round at one of Bintan’s premier golf courses, this stunning destination is now more accessible than ever.
