Did you know that turtles are important for our environment? They help keep seagrass beds healthy, balance animal populations, spread seeds, and clean up the environment. Turtles also create homes for other animals and indicate how healthy the environment is. Learn more about how turtles support our natural world. Plus, find out about Bintan Resorts’ program that supports turtle conservation and helps protect these amazing creatures.

Turtle Conservation Program

Turtle Conservation in Bintan Island

Twice a year, Green and Hawksbill Turtles come ashore to the beaches of Bintan Island to lay their eggs. Several resorts on the island, such as Nirwana Gardens, Banyan Tree Bintan, and Club Med Bintan Island, are involved in a turtle conservation program. The conservation team collects the eggs and buries them in a protected hatchery to keep them safe from predators and poachers. The eggs are monitored for about 60 days until they hatch. Within three days of the first egg hatching, the baby turtles are released into the ocean. This program helps ensure more turtles survive and continue their important roles in the ecosystem.

Hatching and Release

Turtle Conservation

In addition to the scheduled events at Nirwana Gardens and the regular turtle releases at Bintan Resorts, the forthcoming schedule for the turtle hatchery program is set to take place at Nirwana Gardens from June 29th to July 4th, 2024. Guests staying at the hotel are invited to participate in this meaningful initiative. At Bintan Resorts, regular turtle releases are organized by the resort, offering guests the opportunity to witness hatchlings being returned to the vast ocean, though availability may vary depending on the season.

Importance of Turtle Conservation

Turtle Conservation Bintan

The long-term advantages of turtle conservation efforts are profound, benefiting both turtle populations and marine biodiversity. By safeguarding turtle nests and ensuring a higher survival rate for hatchlings as they embark on their journey to the ocean, we contribute to the growth of adult turtle populations in the future. These conservation endeavors contribute to fostering a

Supporting Conservation

Want to lend a helping hand to protect Bintan’s precious turtles? There are many ways you can make a difference! Consider donating to turtle conservation organizations to support their ongoing efforts in safeguarding nests and educating the community. If you’re feeling adventurous, why not volunteer with local conservation teams during your visit? Your time and expertise could be invaluable in ensuring the success of conservation projects. And don’t forget the power of spreading awareness—share your experiences on social media, inspire others to join the cause, and together, we can ensure a brighter future for Bintan’s turtles.

Planning your Visit

Excited to witness the wonder of turtle nesting and hatching on Bintan Island? Here’s your guide to an unforgettable adventure! Plan your trip during the nesting season, which typically occurs from March to September. During these months, you’ll have the best chance of witnessing turtles laying their eggs on the beaches. For those eager to see hatchlings emerge, plan your visit around 60 days after the nesting period begins, as this is when the baby turtles start breaking out of their shells. Remember to book accommodations in advance, and consider staying at resorts participating in turtle conservation programs for a chance to learn more and get involved.
